The 80th world congress of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) will not be taking place this year.
FIP and its congress co-hosts the General Pharmaceutical Council of Spain have “regularly reviewed the congress plans alongside the evolving impact of COVID-19 around the world, the progress of national vaccination programmes and the emergence of variant strains,” FIP said in a release.
“As a result of the latest review, they have concluded that holding a congress this September would not be the right thing to do. They have stated that as many pharmacists as possible must continue to be available to patients and health systems under stress, and that they would not wish to provide any means for the virus to spread”.
“I trust that you will understand this decision and hope that global circumstances allow us to meet again in FIP’s 2022 Seville Press Room”.
