Guild congratulates Kiwi finalists in Aust student biz plan comp

The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand (the Guild) congratulates the team from University of Auckland who has been named one of three finalists in the Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s National Student Business Plan Competition.

Andrew Gaudin, Chief Executive of the Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand, says "The Guild was extremely pleased when this innovative and business-focused contest was extended to New Zealand students and it’s fantastic to see a Kiwi team named in the finalists. This demonstrates the real value our pharmacy students have to offer and we can’t wait to see the positive impact they will have on our sector in the near future. We wish them all the best and hope this encourages other Kiwi teams to enter the competition in coming years."

Three teams, from a total of 16 entries, successfully progressed through the business plan, quarter-final and semi- final rounds and were announced as the 2016 National Student Business Plan Competition finalists. The teams are:

  • NaturEd Pharmacy, University of Auckland

  • Eye Scream for Eye Screen, University of Technology Sydney

  • One Life Pharmacy, University of Sydney.

The competition is an Australia and New Zealand wide challenge, promoting creative entrepreneurship among students preparing for a career in community pharmacy. The teams produce business plans, answer online assessments, complete several essay questions and participate in an investor pitch as part of the competition.

The team from Auckland University developed a business plan around the conceptual NaturEd Pharmacy. Their business plan diverges from conventional health approaches, reinforces patient centric dynamics by making full use of advancing technology, includes a multilingual app to enable patients to keep track of their health, and a multilingual EduCare programme which they describe will revolutionise health literacy approaches to enhance patient education. They also proposed NaturEd Pharmacy would go the extra mile for its community and host education nights to improve knowledge and help delay the progression of long term conditions.

The three finalists will now present their investor pitch ‘live’ at the Pharmacy Connect conference in Sydney, on Saturday 10 September, with the winners announced at the Gala Dinner that evening. The competition will provide $15,000 in cash prizes to the finalists in addition to registration, flights and accommodation to attend Pharmacy Connect.
